The garden lounge

The garden lounge

gold medal winner, overall winner, Bloom 2009

Tim Austen’s second offering at the Bloom in the Park show, 2009 entitled ‘The Garden Lounge’ was a gold medal winner and won the best large gardens category.

The design is for a contemporary garden space that includes: a stylish steel-edged pool, modern eco-friendly deck and colourful paving materials. Tim collaborated with his cousin Simon of Simon Austen Designs (www.simonausten.com), a UK-based furniture design company that specialises in commissioned freestanding furniture, to include two oak loungers in the garden. These were a big-hit with visitors at the show.

At one end of the garden, a light awning shelters the “indoor” lounger and the “outdoor” lounger is located in full view alongside the reflection pool. A twist on this theme of stylish outdoor seating is the hammock hung under a canopy of Beech and River Birch trees to the rear of the garden.

The planting combines showy plants in contemporary arrangements in open parts of the garden with more naturalistic planting in the woodland areas.
